Welcome to the Musculoskeletal (MSK)  Clinical Assessment and Treatment Service (CATS)

We provide a service to patients who do not necessarily need to be referred to hospital, but who can be treated in our Community setting.

We are also able to send you for a variety of scans; including x-rays. ultrasounds and MRI's if further investigation is required.

We are also able to refer patients to a relevant department at the hospital of their choice should this be the appropriate pathway for them.

What will we do?

If you are accepted into our service, during your first appointment with us we will consult with you, examine you, and aim to start treating your condition.

This examination may involve close inspection of the problem area, and any related areas.  This may require you to remove your outer clothing items ie:

  • For arm/shoulder problems we may assess the upper back and neck areas.
  • For knee problems we may assess feet and/or hip and back areas.

PLEASE ATTEND YOUR APPOINTMENTS WEARING APPROPRIATE UNDERCLOTHING AND/OR BRING SHORTS WITH YOU TO THE APPOINTMENT.

We may also offer you an injection at your first or follow-up appointment, if this is appropriate as part of your treatment.

What will happen after my appointment?

Where required we will offer you a follow up appointment and/or provide you with a self-help plan and some exercise for you to do independently.  Alternatively, we may refer you on to another service.
